GABRIELLA CILMI HEADLINES OLYMPIC EVENT ON DERBY MARKET PLACE

Chart star Gabriella Cilmi will join bands and artists from across Derbyshire on Sunday (24 August) at an event to celebrate the moment when London becomes the official Olympic Games Host City.

The One Big Place (Derby and Derbyshire Welcome the World) event is suitable for all the family, and is free. It has been organised by Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s new model for the delivery of the performing arts in the city. The event includes music and dance, as well as a live link up via the Big Screen – Derby’s Olympic Live Site – to London for the raising of the Olympic flag, with a simultaneous flag raising on top of the Assembly Rooms.

It also includes the Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir, who will sing Derby’s regional song, the Derby Ram, the amusing story of a very large sheep. To this day, the symbol of the ram is the emblem of the city and county councils, the Derbyshire regiment and Derby County FC amongst others.
The programme for the day is as follows:

1.30pm Hoverla Ukrainian Ensemble

2.15pm Bana Congo

2.30pm Live Hand-over ceremony from Beijing, raising of Olympic Flag in Derby

3pm Sing The Nation with the Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir

3.20pm sinfonia ViVA

4.15pm Pritam Rhythm Tribe, featuring local children from drum workshops

5pm East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra with Alex Wilson

6pm Patagium, featuring Corey Mwamba

6.30pm Stuck in 2nd

6.45pm Leon

7.30pm Neverland

8.30pm Gabriella Cilmi

Australian-born Gabriella Cilmi reached Number 6 in the UK Singles’ Chart in June this year with her single, Sweet About Me. She has just released her second single, Save the Lies.
