Michael Norton, OBE (Chair)
A merchant banker turned social activist, Michael Norton has devoted the past 30 years to running voluntary organisations, picking up an OBE on the way for services to charity.
He transformed the charity world in the UK by setting up the Directory of Social Change and has initiated a raft of interesting and effective projects worldwide. These include: a banking system for South Asian street children; village publishing and libraries in India; the unLTD Foundation for social entrepreneurs; the Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action (CIVA) to promote innovation and new ideas for voluntary action; the Youthbank scheme to give young people the chance to donate money to local causes; and an international summer school for young activists from over 40 countries, Young People Change the World!
Michael Norton is a man intent on changing the world – and enlisting others to do so on a daily basis – and for this he has won numerous awards. His new venture e has won numerous awards for his contributions to improving the world. His initial belief in Sing London was significant in helping to propel the project forward.
Chris Arnold: CEO Feel Agency
Chris Arnold is Executive Creative Director of FEEL, the UK’s leading creative ethical marketing agency.
He was Integrated Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi before setting up FEEL in 2002. He has also been creative director of Draft Direct Worldwide, Alliance International and Stretch the Horizon.
He is a board member of the Direct Marketing Association (Europe's largest marketing trade body) and is Chairman of the Agency Council. He was former chair of the Creative Council and sits on the Creative Forum and the Training & Education group. He also chairs the Entrepreneurs Media & Marketing Forum.
Chris has written for many publications, including the FT, Creative Review, Impact, Times, Third Sector (he writes a column on creativity) and also writes the weekly ethical blog on Brand Republic (www.brandrepublic.com/ethicalmarketing).
He lectures around the world on creativity, marketing and ethical marketing and also works in colleges and schools encouraging creativity. He chaired last year?s Green Marketing conference.
He is currently writing two books, one on ethical marketing and the new consumer the other, THUNK, on creative thinking. His hobbies include rock climbing and playing rock guitar, though never at the same time!
Eddie Berg
Eddie Berg is Artistic Director of BFI Southbank in London and was responsible for leading the £6.5m redevelopment of the former National Film Theatre site which opened in March 2007, attracting more than 1m visitors in its first year. Previously he was the Chief Executive of FACT (the Foundation for Art & Creative Technology) in Liverpool, which he founded and established in 1988. He conceived and led the development of the landmark £11.5m FACT Centre, which opened to public and critical acclaim in 2003.
Sue Daniels
Sue has over 20 years experience in both the cultural and corporate sectors in the UK, Australia and Canada. After starting working life as a high school music educator, Sue changed careers and has developed expertise in the areas of governance, strategic planning, marketing and fundraising and currently operates her own international consulting practice.
Prior to this Sue was London Regional Director with Arts & Business and a senior consultant with AEA Consulting in UK and Competitive Dynamics in Australia.
Sue has extensive international senior management experience from being Director of Marketing and Development with the State Opera of South Australia, Director of Marketing and Special Projects with Edmonton Opera in Canada, and National Marketer Music & Education for Apple Computer, Australia where she led ground breaking work on the use of multi-media in education.
Sue is currently a Trustee with the Crafts Council. She has an MBA from the University of Queensland (graduating valedictorian), and an undergraduate degree from the University of Sydney (NSW Conservatorium) in Music and Mathematics. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Penny Egan
Penny joined the US-UK Fulbright Commission as its Executive Director in February 2007.
Penny Egan’s role in public service is a distinguished one. She joined the Commission after stepping down as the Executive Director of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) where she was the first woman to have led the RSA in its 250-year history.
Prior to taking on the top job at the RSA in 1998, she was Programme Development Director (1994 – 1998) and RSA Lecture Secretary (1984 – 1994). Her early career includes the posts of Press and Publicity Officer at the Crafts Council (1978 – 82), Press Officer to the Prime Minister at No 10 Downing Street (1975 – 1978), and Press Officer at the Victoria and Albert Museum (1972 – 1975)
Penny is currently a Member of the Design Council; a Board member of the Geffrye Museum; a Trustee of Sing London; a Member of the Council of the University of Warwick; a non-executive Director of Wardour Publishing and Design, and an Honourary Fellow of the Royal College of Art.
Clare McGann
Since leaving the City in 1994, Clare McGann has production managed a variety of television programmes ranging from prime-time BBC documentaries and daytime TV to high-profile entertainment shows such as Live & Kicking and Big Brother. By invitation she has presented workshops on television production management in London and Edinburgh, and twice conducted sessions for young people at the Cinemagic Film Festival in Belfast. Always in search of a fresh challenge, Clare is also studying to become a solicitor.
Meera Sodha – Marketing, Innocent
Meera graduated from the London School of Economics in 2003 with a BSc Industrial Relations and has been working for innocent drinks for the past three years. After working within various Marketing roles within innocent UK she was appointed Marketing Manager for innocent, Sweden and has now returned to the UK to head up the ‘Big Knit’, an innovative cause related marketing campaign getting people knitting to raise money for Age Concern. Meera formerly worked for several small entrepreneurial companies including her own, a dating agency for British Asians called ‘Fancy an Indian?’. She’s been working with Colette since the embryonic stages of Sing London, predominantly on the branding and marketing of the festival.
Frances Whitaker
Frances has a long and successful track record at the BBC where she produced many innovative music projects, including Flashmob the Opera, the award-winning production for BBC Three. She is widely experienced in music programming and was on the production team of Live 8. For Sing London, Frances is looking after relationships with BBC London, the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Roundhouse, Jazz Café, Dana Centre and South Bank Centre.
