“Everyone suddenly burst out singing and I was filled with such delight”
Siegfried Sassoon

Singing makes you feel good. Singing with others makes you feel better still. Sing the Nation offers an opportunity to reclaim your voice. Just park your inhibitions by the door.

Sing the Nation is a festival to get the UK singing; all kinds of people singing all kinds of music in all kinds of places. From Southampton to Swansea, Hackney to Hull, Glasgow to Belfast, there will be events to tempt even the reticent, to burst into song.

From late July through August there will be public singing events in museums, libraries and parks across the nation. Most are free – All are participatory. You can Sing Freedom Songs at Hull’s Wilberforce Museum, Songs of London at the Museum of London or join a Singing History session in Manchester libraries. To see what’s on where, go to the Listings Page.

Sing the Nation culminates on August 24th with mass city sings at 20 BBC Big Screen / Livesites and City centres. The city sings are part of the official celebrations to mark the passing of the Olympic Torch to the UK. In each participating city, community choirs will lead the public in 15 minutes of collective song.. The result will be the world’s biggest singalong.

Why are we doing this? Are we on some kind of mad recruitment mission for The X Factor? No indeed! We think that connecting voices is a good way to connect people; to each other and to the spaces around them. And that’s what we’re about.

Come if you love to sing... come if you think you can't! Live a little, sing a little…..Sing the Nation
